WebAbstract. Smoke from biomass and peat burning has a notable impact on ambient air quality and climate in the Southeast Asia (SEA) region. We modeled a large fire-induced haze episode in 2006 stemming mostly from Indonesia using the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with chemistry (WRF-Chem). WebBC emitted from biomass burning in Southeast Asia (SEA) can be transported over a long distance, affecting regional air quality, global climate, and public health. In view of recurrent forest and peat fires in SEA, it is important to integrate the research findings reported in the literature on BC and point out key knowledge gaps.
