When you stick your fingers in the wheel well, thats the lip you are bending. I have also cut my fenders on my Alpine & black car. I had also prepped and sealed it for good measure. If you fold it up, you'll create a 'cup' for water/salt/etc to seep into and have no real way to clean it out too well, especially if you're doing this coz you're going hella flush.
